This charming penthouse apartment is only a few meters away from Piazza Maggiore, in a picturesque alleyway which runs between the Basilica of San Petronio and Via d'Azeglio. There are two comfortable bedrooms, a quite reading lounge and a living area with a warm fireplace and a fully equipped kitchen.
The apartment is located on the 4th and last floor (without an elevator) of a well-known building, which stands next to the Basilica of San Petronio, the church that overlooks Piazza Maggiore. This is a charming, 90sqm three-room attic apartment, that has just been recently refurbished (spring 2015) with meticulous attention to the finishes and interior furnishings. Guests have the option to utilize an air-conditioning system, in order to regulate the temperature and heating of the home at all times. The environment is characterized by its beautiful exposed, varnished beams and its original fireplace; exquisite artworks created from the property itself are displayed on the walls.
The atmosphere of the living room is informal and relaxed: there are inviting armchairs strategically facing the warm fireplace and next to it, you have a flat-screen TV. Just above the classic wooden dining room table there is a large lamp that really lights up your evening dinners and just to add a bit of magic, you have skylight window that allows natural light to enter: it overlooks the quaint rooftops and the stars of Bologna at night. A pretty, white chaise longue is perfectly situated beneath this window, allowing you to relax or read, as you prefer. The master bedroom has a soft double bed, a vintage chest of drawers decorated with pretty mirrored mosaics, and a large walk-in closet, fully equipped with plenty of space for you to hang and arrange your clothes. The second bedroom has two single beds, a chest of drawers and a double wardrobe. The charming, inviting bathroom has a washing machine and a bathtub with wooden bench, and it is easily reached from the living space.
The kitchen area is completely separate from the living room and it is fully equipped and fitted with an electric oven and a microwave; its windows offer you a pretty view of a quiet external courtyard. The second bedroom has two single beds, a chest of drawers and a double wardrobe. The bathroom has a shower and washing machine and it can be easily accessed from the living room.
Small pets are allowed (double deposit + 120 € for extra cleaning to be paid on site).

The area

We are exactly in the Centre of the medieval old town. Piazza Maggiore is Bologna’s main square and is surrounded by the most important buildings of the city. The oldest is the Podestà Palace, which dates back to 1200 and is topped by the Torre dell'Arengo; just behind the apartment there is the grand Palace of King Enzo. Opposite the ‘Palazzo dei Banchi’ stands the ‘Palazzo D'Accursio’, which is a monumental architectural complex of the fourteenth century, it currently houses the Municipality of Bologna. The newest side of the piazza is embellished by the Basilica of San Petronio, an example of classic Italian Gothic, which began towards the end of the fourteenth century and was never finished. Palazzo dei Banchi marked the beginning of the city's most famous portico, the Pavaglione that connects Piazza Maggiore at the Palazzo dell'Archiginnasio, where the first campus and head office of the University of Bologna stood: it is the oldest in the world. Today the University is located less than 5 minutes’ walk away from the apartment, via Zamboni, in the middle of which stands the Teatro Comunale, famous for its busy schedule of Operas.
The most interesting monuments of the city that surround the Piazza Maggiore square are Piazza Santo Stefano (with the magnificent 7 churches built on top of one another and the wonderful Corte Isolani), the Tower of the Asinelli and the Garisenda Tower. The portico of Palazzo dei Banchi constitutes one of the sides of the so-called Quadrilateral: this is a series of pedestrianized streets where it is possible to find all the delights of the region such as meat, fresh pasta, vegetables, and wine. A genuine ‘Holy of Holies’, for food lovers. Shopping enthusiasts, ultimately, can choose to venture down the crowded street of Via Indipendenza and visit the big fashion houses with stores in Galleria Cavour or they have the opportunity to own original pieces in in the most elegant boutiques of Via Farini or Via d'Azeglio.
Public transport:
The bus stop in via Rizzoli allows you to quickly get to the train station (where you can take an airport shuttle), the Fiera di Bologna (Bologna Fair) and hospitals; all the monuments and points of interest in the historic center can be easily reached on foot.
