Palestro – San Babila: fashion, culture, green areas

San Babila is an elegant area in Milan city centre, connecting Duomo square to Corso Vittorio Emanuele. Built in the ‘30 during the fascist regime, the square was the background for frequent fights amongst the factions animating Milan’s political life.

Nowadays the atmosphere has completely changed, and San Babila has become one of the main shopping districts in Milan, filled with shops and boutiques of the best fashion brands, cafés and restaurants.

The square is dominated by the Snia Tower, the first skyscraper in Milan built in 1937 and nicknamed ‘Rubanuvole’ (one who steals clouds), and by the Toro Building (1935-1939), headquarters of the insurance company Toro – the name comes from here.

At approximately 500 meters, in Corso Venezia, there is Palestro, an elegant residential area facing the Montanelli garden, a big green area in Milan city centre: this is the perfect place where to spend a Sunday afternoon with the children, visiting the Planetarium, the Civic Aquarium or the recently renovated Museum of Natural History.

The area is very well served by the subway line MM1, stops San Babila and Palestro, that connect to Cadorna station and to Rho fairgrounds.
