Sant’Ambrogio – Cattolica: a fascinating district with young atmosphere

The area around Sant’Ambrogio basilica and the Catholic University (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore) is a fascinating place where to live in Milan.

Sant’Ambrogio basilica was built between 379 and 386 A.D. following the request of Ambrogio, the Bishop of Milan and now patron of the city, in an area where the Catholic martyrs were buried after having died from the Roman persecutions. For this reason, the first name given to the basilica was Basilica Martyrum (Martyrs Basilica).

After having undergone continuous changes in the course of the 9th century, the basilica took its final appearance in 1099, when it was radically reconstructed according to Romanesque architecture.

A few steps away, you find the Catholic University, one of the largest universities in the city. The young atmosphere around it has encouraged many bars, pubs and restaurants to open in the area: just imagine how pleasant it is to rent an apartment in Milan and be inspired by the general mood!

The National Science and Technology museum ‘Leonardo Da Vinci’ is also at a stone’s throw, and it is one of the best in Europe.

Only moments from your apartment, you will also find a number of tram, bus and metro stops (green line MM2 S. Ambrogio and Cadorna, red line MM1 Conciliazione and Cadorna), as well as the Cadorna FN railway station, from which trains leave to Malpensa airport.
