Piazza di Spagna: culture, tourism, fashion

In 1587 the Trinità dei Monti church was built, overlooking the Piazza di Spagna and consecrated by Sisto V. Communication with the square below were insured by two tree-lined lanes separated by a steep slope.

It is only in 1726 however that the spectacular staircase was built between Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Trinità dei Monti, whose 138 steps became the third pole of the Trident (along with Piazza del Popolo and the Port of Ripetta). The famous stairway annually hosts an important fashion show while the rest of the year it is a place for hundreds of tourists. A few steps from the square are the Via Condotti and the Via Frattina that are home to some major fashion houses. Going along the stairs and continuing to the left, you will arrive at the Picio terrace and the Villa Borghese.

Piazza di Spagna is surely one of the best places in Rome where to find an apartment for both short and long term stays. Well served by all means of public transport, there are a number of tram, bus and metro stops (Spagna) leading to every part of the city.
