Ostiense district, a quiet residential area just outside the hustle and bustle of the city

The Ostiense district is a quiet residential area just outside Rome city centre. A former industrial area, it is home to important monuments and historic sights, such as: the ex power station of Montemartini, which now hosts some works of art of the ‘Musei Capitolini’; San Paolo fuori le Mura Basilica, one of the four papal basilicas in Rome and the second largest of the city after San Peter’s, which is said to have been erected on St Paul’s tomb; the Cestia Pyramid, a memorial built in 12 b.C. for Caio Cestio, just after Rome had conquered Egypt.

A subway stop away you find the Garbatella district, a quiet and refined area where to stay in Rome, made popular by the film ‘Caro Diario’ by Nanni Moretti.

Here you find many lovely detached houses in Roman ‘Barocchetto’ style, prestigious residential buildings and cultural attractions, such as the Ambra theatre and the Palladium Theatre.
