Piazza Bologna-Nomentana, between the Aurelian walls and il Verano

Piazza Bologna is found in a privileged part of the San Lorenzo area, urban zone III of the municipality of Rome, located between the Aurelian walls, at Porta Tiburtina, and il Verano, the city’s monumental cemetery.

This area dates back to the period between 1884 and 1888, and it is precisely in this district that the first Casa dei Bambini di Maria Montessori was built. Although the area was violently affected by the bombing of the allies on July 19, 1943, in the middle of the Second World War, it was then reconstructed and is now one of the best areas in Rome where to find an apartment for either a short or a long term stay. The area takes its name from the neighboring Basilica di San Lorenzo outside the walls (Basilica di San Lorenzo Fuori le Mura), one of the patriarchal basilicas housing the tombs of San Lorenzo, Popes Ilario and Pio IX as well as Alcide De Gasperi.

Well served by all means of public transport, around Piazza Bologna you find numerous tram, bus and metro stops (Bologna and Tiburtina), that lead to roughly all parts of the city.
